Job summary

Nicholas Associates is seeking a Maintenance Engineer - Trainee Controls Engineer near Rothley, Leicestershire, to join the engineering team. The role focuses on editing PLC programs with training provided, offering a pathway to a full PLC Controls Engineer position.

You will work on PLC, HMI, and SCADA projects, diagnose faults, and contribute to preventative and reactive maintenance. Great opportunity for career progression in automation.

Qualifications

• Time served or apprentice trained in electrical discipline.
• Experience in maintenance within manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens controls; desire to program from scratch.

Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and control faults.
• Support preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain and improve process and material handling equipment.
• Deliver automation upgrades and retrofit projects.
• Analyse performance data to improve reliability.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Support breakdown response and maintain maintenance records.

Job description

The basics:

• Maintenance Engineer - Trainee Controls Engineer - Monday to Friday days
• Industry: Manufacturing
• Location: near Rothley - Leicester
• Pay: 52,500 + overtime available = earnings of 60,000 and upwards achievable
• Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm and Fridays 6am to 4pm
• Overtime: x1.5 Mon-Sat and x2 on Sundays
• Holidays: 25 days

Overview:

We now require a Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team with a key focus around modifying and editing PLC's - this is a great opportunity for an Electrically biased maintenance engineer who is a desire to progress into a fully fledged PLC Controls Engineer role. To be successful in this role you will already have an understanding of editing and modifying programs with the desire to write programs from scratch - training given.

Key responsibilities of the Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Trainee controls engineer role:

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, instrumentation, and control faults.
• Support preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain and improve process and material handling equipment.
• Deliver automation upgrades, system integrations, and retrofit projects.
• Analyse performance data to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Support breakdown response
• Maintain technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance records.

The ideal candidate / Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Trainee controls engineer may have some of the following, however, please note these are only desirable and not essential as all applications will be looked at individually:

• Time served, apprentice trained or above in an Electrical discipline
• Previous experience working in a maintenance focused role within a manufacturing/production environment or similar.
• Competent working with Allen Bradley / Siemens controls systems with the desire to write programs from scratch.
