Job summary

Nicholas Associates Group Limited is seeking a Maintenance Engineer (Trainee Controls Engineer) for a Monday–Friday days role near Rothley/Leicester. The position focuses on PLC editing with training provided to develop into a full PLC Controls Engineer.

Ideal candidates will have electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing, with the desire to program from scratch and progress within automation projects. Overtime and a generous benefits package enhance the opportunity.

Qualifications

• Electrical discipline training completed or apprenticed
• Experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment
• Ability to edit PLC programs and write from scratch (training provided)

Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, instrumentation, and control faults.
• Support preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain and improve process and material handling equipment.
• Deliver automation upgrades, system integrations, and retrofit projects.
• Analyse performance data to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Support breakdown response.
• Maintain technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance records.

The basics:

• Maintenance Engineer - Trainee Controls Engineer - Monday to Friday days
• Industry: Manufacturing
• Location: near Rothley - Leicester
• Pay: £52,500 + overtime available = earnings of £60,000 and upwards achievable
• Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm and Fridays 6am to 4pm
• Overtime: x1.5 Mon-Sat and x2 on Sundays
• Holidays: 25 days

Overview:

We now require a Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team with a key focus around modifying and editing PLC's - this is a great opportunity for an Electrically biased maintenance engineer who is a desire to progress into a fully fledged PLC Controls Engineer role. To be successful in this role you will already have an understanding of editing and modifying programs with the desire to write programs from scratch - training given.

Key responsibilities of the Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Trainee controls engineer role:

The ideal candidate / Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Trainee controls engineer may have some of the following, however, please note these are only desirable and not essential as all applications will be looked at individually:

• Time served, apprentice trained or above in an Electrical discipline
• Previous experience working in a maintenance focused role within a manufacturing/production environment or similar.
• Competent working with Allen Bradley / Siemens controls systems with the desire to write programs from scratch.
