Job summary

A well-established engineering team in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to maintain electrical distribution systems and ensure compliance with statutory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a BTEC or City & Guilds qualification and the IEE 18th Edition qualification, along with strong knowledge of electrical supply systems. Job description
Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Location - Cambridge

Hours - Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm

Salary - up to £40,900

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established engineering team supporting a prestigious facility in Cambridge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out the operation and routine maintenance of all electrical distribution systems, including CHP feeds, emergency standby supplies and systems operating under statutory regulations.
  • Undertake installation works, equipment upgrades and building modifications.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms via the Building Management System (BMS).
  • Comply with statutory requirements, including Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and Installation Testing.
  • Ensure the effective operation of normal, emergency and back‑up electrical supply systems, as well as the Fire Alarm system.
  • Assist in preparing O&M budgets and cost estimates for minor works.
  • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
  • Liaise with specialist contractors servicing plant under your responsibility.
Requirements
  • BTEC or City & Guilds qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant electrical discipline.
  • IEE 18th Edition qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical supply systems and M&E engineering services.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults.
  • Experience with local power and lighting systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Competent in the use of hand/power tools and machinery.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings.
