Are you ready to play a pivotal role in driving financial performance and commercial success within a fast-growing, purpose-driven organisation?

Due to continued growth, contract expansion, and internal progression, Mears Group is looking for a Finance and Commercial Manager to join our dynamic team in Gloucester.

? About Mears Group

At Mears, we manage over 17,000 homes for local and central government and maintain 750,000+ social housing properties across the UK. We are one of the UK’s leading providers of housing management and maintenance services — committed to delivering quality, integrity, and social value.

? About the Role

This is a high-impact, business partnering role working directly with our senior leadership team. You’ll provide financial and commercial insights, drive performance, and support strategic decision-making. Initially office-based for onboarding, the role will transition to a hybrid working model.

You'll be key in translating financial data into meaningful insights, building strong operational relationships, and ensuring commercial contracts are optimised and understood throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate and timely financial and commercial information aligned with corporate standards.
  • Lead monthly commercial reviews with branch leadership teams, identifying performance variances and improvement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain commercial pricing models and support tender responses and repricing exercises.
  • Communicate contract terms and pricing frameworks to operational teams, ensuring compliance and understanding.
  • Implement robust controls to report and manage financial risk and opportunities.
  • Drive cost management and accurate cost allocation through our internal systems (MCM).
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
  • Champion improvements in working capital, ensuring timely job completion and billing.
  • Provide ad hoc commercial analysis to support performance optimisation.

Role Criteria:

  • Fully qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
  • Proven commercial acumen with experience in pricing models, final accounts, and subcontractor management
  • Excellent command of Excel and experience with high-volume, low-value data analysis
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience of business partnering and influencing senior leaders
  • Effective time management and a proactive, hands-on approach

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous exposure to social housing or housing maintenance
  • Experience interpreting and working within commercial contracts

All our roles require candidates to have the entitlement to work within the UK, Mears does not currently offer visa sponsorship

? Benefits:

  • Enhanced Pension Scheme
  • 33 Days Annual Leave (including Bank Holidays)
  • Enhanced Sick Pay
  • Family-Friendly Policies (including enhanced maternity/paternity leave)
  • Refer-a-Friend Bonus (£1,000)
  • Share Save Scheme
  • Free Eye Tests
  • Employee Assistance Programme & Mental Health Support
  • Volunteering Days – paid time off to give back
  • Annual Family Fun Day (entry, travel & lunch covered)
  • Mears Rewards – recognition and high-street voucher platform
