The role

As a Document Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Engaging with stakeholders across various business units and organisational levels, ensuring timely management of the Business Management System (BMS) allowing for opportunities to draw on expertise from the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Function and the broader business.

Day-to-day, you’ll consolidate and create SHE BMS documentation, ensuring legal and contractual compliance while engaging extensively with stakeholders across all organizational levels, and balancing office-based tasks with site visits to industrial, construction, and infrastructure environments.

  • Consolidate or create Manuals, Core Processes, guidance documents, and other SHE BMS materials, occasionally requiring technical SHE input
  • Ensure all systems meet legal and contractual compliance while remaining fit for purpose
  • Engage extensively with stakeholders across all levels and business units, leveraging SHE Function expertise to ensure no BMS items are overdue
  • Split responsibilities between office tasks and on-site activities, including construction sites, surface craft, submarines, and infrastructure

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard

Essential experience of the Document Manager

  • Strong experience of formatting on Microsoft programmes
  • Experience with ISO14001 and ISO45001 management systems is highly desirable; knowledge of quality management or business improvement is advantageous
  • Practical SHE Management experience, particularly in heavy or nuclear industry operations, is desirable but not mandatory
  • Strong communication, tenacity, and meticulous attention to detail

Qualifications for the Document Manager

  • Relevant qualifications such as a NEBOSH General Certificate, Environmental Management Certificate, NVQ/L3 in Business Administration or English Degree are required
  • Internal Auditor qualification or extensive experience with ISO14001 and 45001 systems is desirable
  • Membership in a professional body like IOSH (Technical level) or IEMA (Associate level) is desirable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
