Job description

Our client, a reputable and well-established group of businesses based in the Scottish Borders, is seeking a Head of Finance / Company Secretary.

This diverse organization encompasses trading entities, charities, UK corporates, trusts, and subsidiaries. The role aims to support the directors and the broader business, focusing on succession planning to ensure financial stability and growth.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Accounting and taxation duties such as ledger oversight, invoicing, accounts payable, management and statutory accounts preparation, VAT and partial exemption calculations, and corporation tax.
  2. Governance tasks including filing returns, maintaining registers, and organizing board meetings.
  3. Supervising and developing a small finance team, liaising with professional advisors, advising directors, managing investments, property, HR, payroll, and IT activities.
  4. Handling ad hoc projects as required.
Ideal candidate profile:
  • Qualified Accountant or QBE with relevant experience.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong management and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive leader with a solid understanding of UK accounting principles and governance best practices, preferably with an accountancy practice background.
Package:
  • Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 per annum / pro rata
  • Flexible start and finish times, part-time options available
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • 6% employer pension contributions
  • Discretionary Christmas bonus
