Job summary

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Patient Flow Assistant for the Emergency Department. The role supports the Nurse in Charge to ensure the safe and timely flow of patients through the department.

It is a full-time post covering a 24/7 shift pattern, with responsibilities including updating patient plans, clerking, and coordinating referrals and transfers. The post holder will assist with administrative duties, monitor breaches, and help create a high-performance,

Responsibilities

• Ensure up-to-date plans for all patients >2 hours.
• Keep clerking up to date in real time.
• Cross reference all ED patients to the tracker.
• Input Bed Booked times accurately.
• Record referral times to specialties and outcomes.
• Ensure clinician-driven coding prior to discharge.
• Prepare information for safety huddles.
• Monitor IPS breaches and support resolution.
• Liaise with Diagnostic Services.
• Highlight and follow up on CT/Lab reports.
• Book porters for patient transfers.
• Answer phones and route queries via nurse in charge.
• Identify patient pathway delays and raise to the team.
