To support the operational needs of the transport department (Vehicle & Driver) and to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective day-to-day running of transport operations.

To oversee and manage the efficient day-to-day operational aspects of the transport department. Coordinate with a hands-on approach and ensure consistent priorities and performance.

Ensure effective communication between Bilsthorpe and other Specialist England sites and contribute towards a 'best for business' approach.

To ensure that daily tasks are completed while maintaining high standards of health and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the highest standards of health and safety, promoting a positive health and safety culture.
  • Manage daily transport operations ensuring operational requirements are met.
  • Review and improve operational procedures and risk assessments.
  • Maintain all Transport departmental SSoW and Risk assessments in partnership with the Fleet Compliance Manager and SHEQ Manager, reviewing as per company process.
  • Perform internal audits as required.
  • Review departmental near misses to establish and implement learning and best practices.
  • Investigate all departmental accidents/incidents/RTA, ensuring final reports are distributed to the Transport & SHEQ Managers as needed.
  • Maintain and improve departmental performance levels to maximize efficiency in line with KPIs.
  • Plan, execute, review, and manage all training requirements for the Transport Driver Team, including designing driver training materials that evolve with legislation and company needs.
  • Ensure all drivers are trained to work safely and carry out transport tasks.
  • Conduct annual driver assessments and performance reviews, arranging additional training as necessary.
  • Maintain and review the driver training register annually, instigating refresher training when needed.
  • Ensure all drivers remain legal regarding license checks and that training records are maintained, keeping drivers operationally available.
  • Monitor and manage vehicle telematics and driver Tachograph data using company systems.
  • Ensure drivers operate within legal hours, addressing infringements as needed.
  • Support the Fleet Compliance Manager with vehicle maintenance and driver education in line with Operator license requirements.
  • Ensure all transport department vehicle equipment is maintained and checked regularly to minimize downtime.
  • Communicate company standards to staff at all levels, monitor, and enforce compliance.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

  • Contribute to employee performance management and development, including completing reviews within the Performance Review Process and supporting Individual Development Plans.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Health and Safety Policy, ensuring compliance within areas of responsibility.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required

  • Proactive and safety-focused approach.
  • Proven experience in leading a Transport Driver Team.
  • Good understanding of O'licence obligations and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of EU driver hour regulations.
  • Hands-on, methodical, organized, with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Positive, motivated, flexible, and adaptable attitude.
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize and manage own agenda effectively.
  • Logical approach with data analysis skills and ability to formulate action plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships.
  • Good conflict resolution skills with a ‘Can do’ attitude.
  • High integrity, professional, transparent, open, and honest in interactions.
  • Proficient in PC and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Experienced HGV Class 1 & 2 drivers.
  • Valid Driver CPC and Tachograph cards.
  • Experience operating tankers, pipework, and pumps.
  • Experience in the waste industry preferred; other relevant industries considered.
  • Experience in behavioral safety and culture change.
  • ISOH General Certificate or equivalent.
