Job summary

RWE Generation UK is seeking an experienced electrical maintenance engineer to operate HV/LV systems safely at our hydro-electrical generating plant. You will prepare switching instructions, permits and isolation records and support outage work.

You will lead planned maintenance, supervise contractors, manage budgets and participate in standby rotas, with a strong safety culture and driving cost-effective, reliable plant operations.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical apprenticeship and Level 3 qualification or higher.
• Ability to plan and control own work and a small team with safety and attention to detail.
• Experience in a process/engineering environment, ideally power generation, with a strong safety culture.
• Experience fault-finding and maintenance under controlled conditions with systematic isolation of hazards.
• Contract management experience to work with partners and achieve commercial outcomes.
• Ability to manage costs within budgets and allocate resources effectively.

Responsibilities

• Operate HV and LV electrical systems safely, preparing switching instructions, permits, and isolation records.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance, inspections, testing and condition assessments on switchgear, transformers, protection systems, cables, batteries and earthing.
• Maintain tools, test equipment, PPE and operational spares in a calibrated condition.
• Provide asset-specific technical knowledge to Operations and Maintenance teams.
• Create, manage and deliver electrical work scopes during outages, ensuring safety and on-time delivery within budget.
• Manage contractors delivering maintenance work under supervision.
• Join a standby rota for out-of-hours calls.
