Teaching Assistant – Early Years

Position: Early Years Teaching Assistant

Location: Barnsley

Type: Long Term Temporary

Hours: Full time

Hays Education South Yorkshire division is looking to appoint an Early Years Teaching Assistant for a primary school in the Barnsley area.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a nursery early years (EYFS) class on a full-time basis until the end of the academic year. This role is best suited to a level 3 qualified teaching assistant who can commit until the end of the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide consistent support to early years children within the classroom.
2. Engage children with educational activities and manage transitions.
3. Monitor and support children’s safety, assisting with self-care tasks.
4. Set up a range of engaging activities around the EYFS framework.
5. Promote the use of Read Write Inc phonics scheme, supported by the class teacher.

Requirements:

1. Experience working with children in EYFS.
2. Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
3. Ability to manage challenging behaviours in a calm and effective manner.
4. Relevant qualifications in education or childcare, or recent referenceable experience within the last two years.
5. Experience delivering phonics support.
