Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking an Early Years Nursery Assistant to provide flexible cover across private day nurseries in Huddersfield. You will support children aged 0–5, assist qualified staff, and contribute to engaging activities.

This role offers day-to-day, short-term, or longer placements with immediate starts. The ideal candidate has at least 6 months' UK experience, a caring and enthusiastic approach, and a willingness to work across different settings.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months' experience working with children in the UK.
• Experience in a nursery, childcare, school or Early Years setting.
• Level 2 or 3 Childcare qualification desirable but not essential.
• Understanding of EYFS framework desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support children aged 0–5 in learning, development and routines.
• Assist qualified practitioners with planning and delivering activities.
• Encourage development through play, storytelling and outdoor activities.
• Support personal care, mealtimes and hygiene.
• Help create a safe, nurturing learning environment.
• Build positive relationships with children, parents and staff.

Early Years Nursery Assistants to provide flexible cover across a variety of nursery settings.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking for day-to-day supply work, with the flexibility to choose the days that suit your availability. Whether you are looking for full-time hours, part-time work or occasional shifts, we have opportunities to suit you.

There may also be opportunities for longer-term placements and permanent positions within the nurseries.

As an Early Years Nursery Assistant, you will be responsible for:

• Supporting children aged 0–5 years in their learning, development and daily routines
• Assisting qualified Nursery Practitioners with planning and delivering fun, engaging activities
• Encouraging children's development through creative play, storytelling and outdoor activities
• Supporting children with personal care, mealtimes and hygiene routines
• Helping to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment
• Building positive relationships with children, parents and nursery staff
• Following safeguarding procedures and nursery policies
• Adapting to different nursery environments and working effectively as part of a team

The successful Early Years Nursery Assistant will have:

• A minimum of 6 months' experience working with children in the UK
• Previous experience in a nursery, childcare, school or Early Years setting
• A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare or Early Years (desirable but not essential)
• An understanding of the EYFS framework (desirable)
• A genuine passion for supporting young children's learning and development
• A caring, patient and enthusiastic approach
• The confidence to use their own initiative and adapt to different nursery environments
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A reliable and flexible attitude towards work
• You do not need to hold a formal childcare qualification to apply, provided you have the relevant experience working with children.
