Purpose

Lead the Commercial team to deliver the Society’s ambitious growth plans and strategic objectives. Oversee all mortgage and savings sales & marketing activities, including product development, management, distribution strategy, and influencing the entire mortgage proposition through lending policy design and service delivery. Develop strategic marketing plans focused on new member acquisition, retention, and referrals, based on a defined customer experience and aligned with commercial targets. Challenge operational processes to address gaps in the member experience across all delivery channels.

Responsibilities

Channels

  • Establish and maintain key relationships with services for members and intermediaries.
  • Design and implement compelling member and intermediary propositions to meet commercial targets.
  • Identify and onboard new distribution channels, including aggregators where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to build and maintain a high-quality mortgage book.

Customers/Members

  • Take primary responsibility for consumer duty, ensuring compliance with the Consumer Duty Act and delivering good financial outcomes.
  • Conduct annual reviews and reporting on Consumer Duty and products.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer outcomes and implement necessary changes.
  • Monitor market trends and regulatory updates to stay ahead of changes affecting consumer duty.
  • Promote a culture of fair treatment for members within the Executive Committee.

Brand/Marketing

  • Develop and deliver the Marketing Strategy in line with the corporate plan.
  • Ensure all literature, website, and promotional materials meet regulatory standards.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the firm’s consumer duty framework, including adopting new technology and process improvements.
  • Identify and develop new relationships to enhance the Society’s reputation.

Product Development

  • Plan and provide mortgage and savings products within set limits.
  • Develop new product proposals to meet member needs and support the Corporate Plan.
  • Work with Treasury and Finance teams on product development and pricing.

Change Management

  • Stay informed about political, social, economic, technological, and regulatory developments to inform strategy.
  • Act as Sponsor for major initiatives, ensuring governance and timely delivery.

Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and inspire teams to meet future needs.
  • Establish effective communication channels to engage and motivate staff around the Society’s Mission and Purpose.

Other Responsibilities

  • Contribute to governance as a member of the Executive Committee and other groups.
  • Maintain knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and financial frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance and audit requirements are met by all reports.
  • Manage departmental budgets effectively.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Motivated by growth, passionate about delivering excellent member outcomes, and capable of leading a dedicated team. Experience in regulated UK financial services, leading savings and/or mortgage divisions. Demonstrates strong leadership, with responsibility for consumer duty and regulatory understanding. Proven track record in launching new products, managing projects, and building internal and external networks. Comfortable with emerging business technologies and data analysis to inform decisions. Strong relationships with intermediaries are advantageous.
