GSL Education are currently inviting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant to support a specialist SEN school in Chesterfield. This is a role commencing in September 2025, requiring a reliable driver due to location and potential travel between school sites.

About the role:

As an Administrative Assistant within a special educational needs setting, you’ll play a vital part in keeping school operations running smoothly. You will support the senior leadership team, teaching staff, and external stakeholders with essential admin duties, all while ensuring pupil welfare and school efficiency remain a top priority.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage school reception duties: handling calls, emails, and visitor enquiries professionally.
  • Maintain accurate pupil and staff records using internal systems.
  • Assist in scheduling meetings, preparing documentation, and supporting internal communications.
  • Support safeguarding processes by tracking attendance, behaviour logs, and pupil data.
  • Handle filing, photocopying, and confidential data management with sensitivity and care.
  • Liaise with parents, external agencies, and transport providers where needed.
  • Assist with finance and procurement tasks such as ordering supplies and managing invoices.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous administrative or office-based experience, ideally in a school or SEN setting.
  • Strong IT proficiency in Microsoft Office and school MIS systems (e.g., SIMS).
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be a driver with access to a vehicle due to the rural school location.
  • An understanding of or sensitivity towards the needs of children with SEN is essential.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).

What makes GSL exceptional:

  • Competitive pay rates of £95 - £100 per day, depending on experience.
  • A dedicated SEN consultant supporting your career journey.
  • Opportunities for long-term placements and CPD development.
  • Be part of a caring, inclusive environment where your work truly matters.

If you're an enthusiastic and organised individual ready to support an SEN school environment this September, we encourage you to apply today with GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing an application for a new check.
