Job description

The Education Division’s Interim Provision Service (IPS) are seeking to recruit highly experienced and dynamic Learning Mentors to join this exciting team within Children’s Services. We are looking for Learning Mentors for the Hastings, Rother and Rye areas.

There are two term time only positions available; one permanent, and one fixed term for one year.

Salary pro rata for TTO is approximately £22,293 per annum

As a Learning Mentor you will be working with children and young people that have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), you will have the chance to give them the confidence and opportunity to progress in life. Your skills and knowledge will play a key part in shaping their future.

You will undertake responsibilities in supporting children and young people with transition support and targeted interventions. You will be a highly effective learning mentor who is committed in supporting children and young people whilst they are awaiting a school placement. The role will require you to have effective communication skills and an ability to work successfully with a wide range of people. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has the skills to support service improvement and development.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Can manage a caseload of children who require a range of interventions including SEND and targeted interventions in the home, IPS centre or virtually and monitor and review the effectiveness of these interventions.
  • Provide advice and support for school transitions, liaising with school staff including SENCOs, pastoral staff, and colleagues in the Education Division regarding the pupil passport.
  • Be the first line of contact with parent/carers, developing positive relationships with them and to meet with them to obtain pupil and parent voice. To oversee and lead in the weekly safeguarding welfare checks.
  • Undertake elements of the day to day running of the learning centre at Bexhill, under the direction of the Deputy Service Manager and IPS SEND teachers, including specific health and safety duties, supporting curriculum-based learning, and cookery sessions with the children and young people.
  • Provide technical support, advice, and guidance within the home to students and families to ensure the successful access and ongoing progress to online learning.
  • Be able to travel to children and young people’s homes across Hastings, Rother and Rye, to provide mentoring support.
