Are you a compassionate and motivated individual looking to make a significant difference in the lives of students with additional needs? We are seeking a Specialist Learning Mentor to join a vibrant Primary School in Westcliff-on-Sea. This full-time, temporary to permanent role offers an incredible opportunity to support students with SEND/SEMH needs, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to provide tailored support to children, empowering them to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group support to students, promoting confidence and independence in their learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCo, and pastoral staff to implement tailored strategies and interventions.
  • Facilitate and lead SEND/SEMH intervention groups for identified students.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, acting as a key point of contact for parents and carers.
  • Monitor and record progress, maintaining accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
  • Support students during break and lunch times, encouraging positive social interactions and behaviours.
  • Assist with the transition of children into mainstream classes when appropriate.
  • Employ behaviour management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques to support student engagement and well-being.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working with children with SEND/SEMH needs in an educational setting.
  • Training or knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as nurture or Team Teach.
  • Familiarity with EHCPs and risk assessments for children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting children.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
