Role Description

Our Nuclear team is looking for an experienced Cost Estimator to work as part of an integrated project controls team delivering nuclear work. The projects combine both new build and decommissioning within a structured collaborative environment working with colleagues focused on innovative solutions and teamwork, with a focus on delivering programme outputs.

As part of our Cost Management team, you'll be involved in a wide range of projects from global and high-profile to small and impactful, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. Your expertise in planning, estimating, budgeting, and managing costs will drive growth and smarter working.

We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we're facing the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The frequency of large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is increasing. We are here to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations.

Role Accountabilities

The main responsibilities of this role include providing an effective cost estimating service to Project Managers and Alliance Managers. This involves participating in project reviews and audits to ensure compliance with company procedures, developing cost breakdown structures, and supporting the development of work breakdown structures.

The person in this role will provide estimates for all stages of a project lifecycle using existing software, develop cost estimates based on norms or bottom-up approaches, and ensure all qualifications, exclusions, and assumptions are captured in the estimates. They will load estimating data into relevant systems, incorporate lessons learned from internal and external sources, and maintain the cost database for corporate knowledge.

Additional duties include acting as an independent verifier for cost estimates, participating in tender assessments, quantifying cost implications of emergent or additional project work, and supporting post-contract administration. They will also participate in independent cost estimate reviews.

Travel to sites across Bridgwater and/or Bristol approximately twice per week is required.

Qualifications & Experience
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., MRICS) or demonstrable experience in cost estimating.
  • Experience working as an Estimator, ideally within the Nuclear sector; experience in a regulated public sector environment (e.g., Water, Rail, Utilities) is also encouraged.
  • Experience utilizing the NEC3/4 suite of contracts.
  • Attainment or near attainment of relevant professional certification or chartered status.
  • Knowledge of standard methods of measurement (SMM7, CESMM3, NRM2).
  • Experience working on NEC contracts.
