Job summary

Serco, on behalf of Leisure Solutions Community Trust (LSCT), is seeking a Duty Manager to lead day-to-day operations at the Buckingham leisure centre. You will drive safety, customer service and programme delivery while supporting lifeguarding duties as needed.

The role requires contact with customers, colleagues and partners to maintain a welcoming, active community space. A strong background in leisure management and lifeguard supervision is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in leisure, hospitality or retail management.
• Lifeguard background with supervisor experience.
• Strong health and safety leadership in emergencies.
• Commercial awareness and sales/customer engagement.
• Able to organise, prioritise and manage multiple operations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, hands-on approach maintaining high standards.
• Confident and capable swimmer.
• Valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
• Valid National Pool Plant Operators certificate.

Location: Swan Pool & Leisure Centre, Buckingham, MK18 1AE

Salary: £27,742.56 plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Permanent, 40 hours per week, 3-week rota with various shift times working 5 over 7 days, Monday to Friday 5.30am to 2.30pm or 2pm to 10.30pm, Saturday 6.30am to 6.30pm, Sunday 7.30am to 6.30pm

As a Duty Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day operation of the leisure centre, helping create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for customers of all ages. By supporting colleagues, maintaining high standards and ensuring activities run smoothly, you'll have a positive impact on communities, helping more people stay active, connected and healthy while contributing to a better future.

What You’ll Do As a Duty Manager

• Lead on health, safety and quality, ensuring compliance with legislation, maintaining safe systems of work and taking control during incidents and emergencies.
• Drive commercial performance by supporting sales activity, member retention and excellent customer service standards.
• Oversee daily operations, including opening and closing the centre, managing rotas and ensuring programmes are delivered effectively.
• Monitor the facility and proactively resolve issues to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety and presentation.
• Lead, coach and develop colleagues, supporting growth and consistent performance across the team.
• Act as a visible leader, building trust with customers and responding positively to feedback, queries and community needs.
• Support with Lifeguarding duties as required.

Does this sound like you?

• Proven experience in leisure, hospitality or retail management
• Lifeguard background with supervisor experience
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices, with confidence to lead during high-pressure or emergency situations.
• Commercial awareness and experience supporting sales, customer engagement or service improvement initiatives.
• Ability to organise, prioritise and manage multiple operational demands effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and motivate others.
• A proactive, hands-on approach, taking pride in maintaining high standards and delivering a great customer experience.
• Confident and capable swimmer
• Valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or training provided)
• Valid National Pool Plant Operators certificate (or training provided)

Vetting and checks

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
