Job summary

Sheffield City Council is seeking a skilled Drupal-focused web developer to join the Digital Services team. You will create, maintain and improve accessible online services and council websites, delivering secure and user-centred experiences for residents and businesses.

You will work with content designers, UX specialists and developers to build reusable components, integrate with APIs, and promote performance, accessibility and quality across digital platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and maintaining Drupal-based websites and digital services.
• Strong PHP (Twig) development skills with clean, documented code.
• Experience creating custom Drupal modules, themes and site functionality.
• Proficient with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and modern front-end practices.
• Experience using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
• Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design.
• Knowledge of testing approaches, QA processes and code reviews.
• Experience with REST APIs and containerised development (Docker/DDEV).
• Understanding of website performance, analytics and SEO.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance Drupal websites and digital services.
• Create secure, maintainable code following standards.
• Develop reusable components, templates and functionality.
• Build integrations with internal/external systems via APIs.
• Troubleshoot defects, performance issues and technical problems.
• Support accessibility, usability, performance and security improvements.
• Collaborate with content designers, UX researchers and service teams.
