Job summary

NHFM is recruiting a friendly domestic assistant to join the Berwick Infirmary team. The role is 19.5 hours per week, typically 3 x 6.5-hour shifts between 7am and 7pm, with some weekend and bank holiday enhancements.

You will maintain high cleanliness standards across wards and offices, supporting safe patient care and the NHS Trust’s facilities. Training and a supportive environment are provided.

Qualifications

• Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety certificate or must be achieved within 6 months of start date.
• NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent.
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Cleaning of floor areas and general housekeeping to maintain cleanliness standards.
• Undertake deep cleans in areas where infection is present.
• Remove rubbish including domestic and clinical waste to disposal point.
• Clean sanitary areas, toilets, sinks, showers and staff changing areas.
• Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges and shelves.
• Clean internal glass and maintain high cleanliness standards.
• Carry out urgent spot cleaning and spillages.
• Attend training on hygiene, safety and related procedures.
• Perform any other duties appropriate to the department.

Job overview

We are looking to recruit a friendly and flexible domestic assistant to join our small team at Berwick Infirmary.

Hours of work for this position are:

19.5 hr post - usually worked as 3 x 6.5 hr shifts per week between 7am and 7pm. This position will involve working a share of weekend and bank holiday dates, for which an enhanced hourly rate is payable.

Other hours may also be available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
• Undertake "deep cleans" in areas where infection is present.
• Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
• Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
• Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
• Cleaning of internal glass.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
• Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
• Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the health and safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
• Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
