Job summary

NHFM seeks a Cleaning Supervisor (Band 3) to manage domestic staff across central pools, wards and departments at Northumbria healthcare facilities. The role involves training, supervision, and coordinating cleaning activities to maintain safe and hygienic environments.

The post offers part-time hours (30 per week, Mon–Fri, earlies/lates) with enhanced pay for evenings/nights and comprehensive NHS-aligned terms. Support for staff development and a strong emphasis on leadership are key.

Qualifications

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Fully effective and efficient deployment of staff with the key outcome of the maintenance of safe, hygienic, tidy and clean areas.
  • Administration of Staff Rostering system.
  • Undertake “Return to Work” meetings with staff following sickness absence.
  • Programme of duties including staff management, training and development, and appraisals.
  • Checking and upkeep of all cleaning equipment and maintenance of service/report schedules.
  • Ensure work is completed to a satisfactory standard by inspecting the area and completing Supervisor Cleaning Inspection sheets.
  • Order, receive and issue stores and protective clothing to staff.
  • Ensure correct use of all materials and equipment; keep equipment in good working order.
  • Provide on-the-job training to staff to ensure correct methods and working practices.
  • Respond to low level complaints professionally to reach effective resolutions.
  • Ensure appraisals and mandatory training are completed for their staff group.
  • Complete quality control sheets regularly in line with procedures.
  • Report the need for structural and fabric repairs.
  • Ensure periodic cleaning is carried out according to the programme and recorded.
  • Maintain daily staff register and other records for Domestic Superintendent/Higher Level Domestic Supervisor.
  • Assist staff in recording incidents via the Datix system.
  • Issue keys and key fobs as appropriate.
  • Assess new buildings/departments for scheduling, costing and equipment needs.
  • Observe confidentiality of information obtained in course of work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Fully effective and efficient deployment of staff with the key outcome of the maintenance of safe, hygienic, tidy and clean, clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Administration of Staff Rostering system.
  • Undertake “Return to Work” meetings with staff following sickness absence.
  • Successful and effective programme of duties associated with staff management such as administration, training and development, appraisal, counselling.
  • The checking and upkeep of all cleaning equipment and the maintenance of service/report schedules.
  • Ensuring specified work is completed to a satisfactory standard by checking frequently the work in his/her area and completing Supervisor Cleaning Inspection sheets.
  • To order, receive and issue stores and protective clothing to staff.
  • Check correct use of all materials and equipment. Check that all equipment is in good working order and kept in a clean condition.
  • To carry out on the job training to staff to ensure correct methods and working practices. To give sufficient close supervision and training to new staff until the required standard of work is achieve.
  • To respond to low level complaints in an effective and professional manner to a successful resolution.
  • To ensure that appraisals and statutory and mandatory training are complete in their designated staff group.
  • To regularly complete quality control sheets in accordance with quality control procedures.
  • Reporting the need for structural and fabric repairs.
  • To ensure that periodic cleaning is carried out according to the programme and recorded.
  • To maintain the daily staff register and any other record required by the Domestic Superintendent/ Higher Level Domestic Supervisor.
