Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Domestic Assistant to join our team at the Primary Care Centre Colchester. You will help create a safe, clean and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors, supporting health and wellbeing through consistent, high-quality cleaning.

This casual role offers a range of duties, including general cleaning, replenishment, waste management and equipment checks, with training provided and opportunities to develop within a supportive healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a cleaning role.
• Understanding of COSHH and health and safety requirements.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to organise workload and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Complete general cleaning duties, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning internal glass.
• Replenish supplies, replace bin bags and remove general and clinical waste using the correct waste streams.
• Carry out routine, discharge and infectious cleans in line with local procedures.
• Follow daily cleaning schedules and complete the required checklists and paperwork accurately.
• Check cleaning equipment and machinery before use, reporting faults or safety concerns promptly.
• Clean and maintain equipment, including cables, filters and bags.
• Use cleaning chemicals safely and follow COSHH, infection prevention and health and safety guidance.
• Wear the appropriate uniform and personal protective equipment for each task.

Job Introduction

What you’ll do:

• Monitor stock levels and notify the Team Leader when additional supplies are required.
• Keep cleaning cupboards and storage areas clean, safe and organised.
• Change curtains and clean blinds in accordance with the department’s cleaning schedule.
• Work as part of the wider clinic team, responding to requests and changing priorities when required.
• Protect patient confidentiality and comply with safeguarding, equality, data protection and local site procedures.
• Attend mandatory, statutory and role-specific training as required.
