Job summary

Colsterworth Medical Practice is seeking a Dispenser to join the rural GP practice dispensary. The role focuses on checking and dispensing prescriptions, stock management, and ensuring fridge temperatures are properly monitored. You will handle NHS paperwork and provide patient-facing service within a supportive team.

The ideal candidate has NVQ Level 2 or above and previous dispensary experience, with a willingness to contribute to day-to-day running and maintain high dispensing standards.

Dispenser post in the dispensary of Colsterworth Medical Practice, a rural GP practice that dispenses medicines for its local community. The work centres on checking and dispensing prescriptions, keeping stock and fridge temperatures in order, and handling charges and NHS paperwork. The role suits a dispenser who enjoys patient contact and works well within a supportive team. Applicants need an NVQ Level 2 or above and previous dispensary experience.

What the job involves

• Process and dispense prescriptions accurately, checking against the authorisation and querying doubts with the authorising doctor
• Operate stock control to keep supplies continuous and limit out-of-date waste
• Monitor and record fridge and room temperatures and store medicines correctly
• Collect prescription charges, record monies and keep accurate transaction records
• Endorse prescription forms and send them securely to NHS Prescription Services in the correct bundles
• Pass invoices and dispensary correspondence to the practice or dispensary manager
• Tell authorising doctors about FP10 feedback from NHS Prescription Services
• Respond promptly to medicine recalls and drug alerts
• Keep shelves, work surfaces and dispensary equipment clean and in good working order
• Support the day-to-day running of the dispensary and provide customer service to patients and colleagues
• Undertake other work needed to maintain a high standard of dispensing service
