Job summary

Bugbrooke Medical Practice is seeking a dispenser to join the dispensary team. The role focuses on dispensing against prescriptions, stock control, and handling repeat requests with patient queries in a busy rural practice.

You will hold an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) and have experience in primary care dispensing. SystmOne experience would be advantageous; a professional, confidential approach is essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent dispensing qualification.
• Experience in primary care dispensing or community pharmacy.
• Strong communication skills with professional manner.
• Ability to work accurately under pressure while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Dispense medication accurately against prescriptions and SOPs.
• Manage stock, including ordering, rotation, expiry checks and continuity of supply.
• Process repeat prescriptions on SystmOne.
• Assist patients face-to-face and by phone, liaising with clinical staff.
• Maintain Controlled Drugs records in line with legal requirements.
• Keep the dispensary clean, organised and compliant with health and safety.
• Endorse prescriptions and prepare month-end paperwork for PPA submission.
• Advise patients on prescription pre-payment, exemptions and fees.
• Store medicines and refrigerated items correctly, with temperature records.
• Respond promptly to drug alerts and maintain dispensing records.

The work centres on preparing and issuing prescribed medicines, keeping stock and Controlled Drugs records in order, and handling repeat requests and patient queries. Experience in a primary care or community pharmacy dispensing setting is expected, and SystmOne skills would help. An NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services or an equivalent dispensing assistant qualification is needed to apply.

What the job involves

• Dispense medication accurately against prescriptions and SOPs

• Handle patient enquiries face-to-face and by phone, liaising with clinical and practice staff
