Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in Oxford, UK, is seeking an enthusiastic Director, Systems Software to lead a software team of around twenty engineers and to plan and manage the development of software powering our quantum computers.

You will define the stack architecture, establish devops and release processes, work across teams, and partner with quantum scientists to deliver a scalable, full-stack platform. Previous quantum experience not required; strong leadership in high‑tech software is essential.

• Proven ability to lead a software organization with tens of engineers and subject matter experts.
• Strong prioritization and stakeholder management in a fast-moving, high-tech environment.
• Experience shaping software development processes in growing teams.
• Excellent communication across internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the software team and collaborate with other technical teams to build long-term roadmaps.
• Own backlog and ensure delivery per company needs and timelines.
• Define and evolve internal team and DevOps processes as the stack matures.
• Grow the team with a focus on high quality output and delivery speed.
