Job summary

18 Week Support Limited is recruiting for a six-month, weekend-only healthcare assistant role to support dermatology theatres in Middlesex. The position centers on surgical support for procedures such as skin biopsies and minor skin cancer work, including pre-operative prep, sterile field care and post-operative care.

Applicants should have recent dermatology theatre experience and at least six months of this work in the past year, with NHS theatre setting exposure.

Job description

A six-month temporary post supporting weekend insourcing clinics in Middlesex, placed by 18 Week Support Limited for NHS dermatology waiting list work. The role centres on surgical support for procedures such as skin biopsies, excisions and minor skin cancer procedures, covering pre-operative preparation, sterile field care and post-operative care. It is weekend-only theatre work for healthcare assistants with recent dermatology theatre experience. Eligibility depends on having at least six months of that work in the past twelve months.

What the job involves

• Assist the dermatologist or surgeon during procedures such as skin biopsies, excisions, curettage and cautery, and punch biopsies
• Support pre-operative assessment and preparation for dermatological surgery
• Maintain aseptic technique and a safe sterile field
• Monitor patients during procedures and respond promptly to complications
• Handle instruments and specimens, including specimen management
• Support minor skin cancer procedures and Mohs surgery where applicable
• Provide post-operative care, patient education and support
• Assist with medicines and local anaesthetics
• Maintain documentation and clinical governance
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
