Job summary

18 Week Support is seeking an experienced Dermatology Surgical Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to support weekend insourcing lists in Birmingham. You will help deliver NHS waiting list initiatives across dermatology services, including Minor Operations, working with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth patient journeys.

Ideal candidates have hands-on dermatology surgical experience, strong communication skills, and a patient‑centred approach.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience supporting dermatology surgical lists.
• Active involvement for at least 6 months within the past 12 months.
• Experience as a Healthcare Assistant in an NHS dermatology surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare treatment rooms and surgical equipment.
• Assist clinicians during Minor Operations and Complex Minor Operations.
• Prepare patients for procedures and provide reassurance.
• Chaperone patients during consultations and procedures.
• Record patient observations where required.
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection prevention standards.
• Handle specimens and documentation as needed.
• Support patient flow during surgical lists.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.
• Ensure clinics run safely, efficiently and in line with local policies.

About The Role

We are currently seeking experienced Dermatology Surgical Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to support weekend insourcing lists, helping deliver NHS waiting list initiatives across a range of dermatology surgical services, including Minor Operations and Complex Minor Operations.

Requirements

To be considered, you must:

• Have recent, hands-on experience supporting dermatology surgical lists
• Have been actively undertaking this work for at least 6 months within the past 12 months

You will also have:

• Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within an NHS dermatology surgical setting
• Experience assisting with minor surgical procedures
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Organisational skills and attention to detail
• A patient-focused approach with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
