Job summary

Dorothy House Hospice Care is seeking a Deputy Shop Manager for its charity shop in Calne. The role supports the Shop Manager with daily operations, volunteer leadership, and showroom presentation.

It is part-time (two days per week) with alternate weekends and requires no retail background but physical stamina and good maths and English. You will help recruit and train volunteers, maintain high standards, and deputise for the Shop Manager when needed.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the Shop Manager in the day-to-day running of the shop and creating a welcoming environment for customers and donors.
• Acting as customer champion, using initiative and continuous improvement to deliver the best possible retail experience.
• Helping to deliver high standards across the shop floor and backstage areas, supporting volunteers so every shopper has a positive experience.
• Supporting, motivating and engaging the volunteer team, helping them feel confident, valued and well supported.
• Assisting with training volunteers to prepare goods for sale, give excellent customer service and keep high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
• Assisting with sorting, pricing and presenting donated stock.
• Deputising for the Shop Manager when required, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the shop.
• Supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers

This Deputy Shop Manager post supports the Shop Manager in running a busy charity shop for Dorothy House Hospice Care. Core work covers daily shop operations, leading and training volunteers, presenting donated stock and deputising for the manager. Part-time, two days a week with alternate weekends, it needs no retail background but is physically demanding. Good Maths and English and strong organisation decide fit.
