Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd in Gloucester is hiring a Delivery Driver & Loader to support our Commercial Waste division. The role combines delivery driving with yard duties, delivering and collecting wheelie bins, equipment, and materials across the operating area while keeping the yard safe and organised.

You will record deliveries and collections on handheld devices, assist with vehicle checks, and work flexibly between driving and yard tasks in a busy outdoor environment.

Qualifications

• Full UK Driving Licence required.
• Experience in delivery driving or similar operational roles.
• Ability to load, unload and handle equipment safely.
• Good Health & Safety awareness in an operational environment.
• Basic IT skills for handheld devices and tablets.

Responsibilities

• Safely deliver and collect wheelie bins, equipment and materials across the operating area.
• Complete daily delivery and collection schedules efficiently and professionally.
• Record deliveries and collections using handheld devices and tablets.
• Assist the driver with loading/unloading and yard duties as required.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects accurately.

Join Our Growing Waste Management Team

Smiths is looking for a reliable and hardworking Delivery Driver & Loader to support the day-to-day operation of our Commercial Waste division in Gloucester.

This is a varied and hands-on role that combines delivery driving with yard-based duties. You will be responsible for the safe delivery and collection of wheelie bins, equipment and materials across our operating area, while also helping to maintain a safe, organised and efficient yard environment.

Key Responsibilities of Delivery Driver / Loader

Delivery & Collection Duties

• Safely deliver and collect wheelie bins, equipment and materials across our operating area.

• Complete daily delivery and collection schedules efficiently and professionally.

• Accurately record deliveries and collections using handheld devices and tablets.

• Ensure all loads are transported safely and securely in line with company procedures.

Loader Duties

• Assist the driver with the scheduled emptying of wheelie bins and waste bags on their route.

• Support the cleaning, inspection and basic upkeep of allocated vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard.

Vehicle Safety & Compliance

• Carry out daily vehicle checks and inspections.

• Complete vehicle defect reporting and inspection records accurately.

• Operate vehicles safely and in accordance with company procedures and transport legislation.

• Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant at all times.

What We're Looking For as a Delivery Driver / Loader:

Essential Requirements

Full UK Driving Licence

Experience in a delivery driving, yard operative, warehouse, waste management, construction or similar operational role

Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an operational environment

Ability to load, unload and handle equipment and materials safely

Basic IT skills, including the use of tablets and handheld devices

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
