Job summary

Bristol Waste Company is seeking a Class 2 Driver/Loader in Bristol to transport waste and recycling materials. This role involves driving safely, loading and unloading materials according to customer requirements, and maintaining vehicle standards.

Purpose Of The Role

If you are looking for a driving role with Monday to Friday family friendly daytime hours, on standard 8 hour shifts and local routes, then this would be a great opportunity for you.

As a Class 2 Driver/Loader you will be driving the company vehicle safely, load, transport and unload waste and recycling materials according to the agreed customer requirements, Bristol Waste Company procedure and all external legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

To drive / operate vehicles and equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and legal requirements and as required by the company in accordance with the valid licence, experience and training for that vehicle / equipment
Responsible to ensure route completion and tasks are completed to Bristol Waste Company’s, required standards
Tipping of vehicle at designated and approved refuse facility and to load and unload waste materials in accordance with Bristol Waste Company’s policy, procedures, training and legal requirements, complying with all health and safety requirements
To use mobile IT equipment and to complete daily paperwork as appropriate
Undertake any training / instruction required to carry out these duties and or deemed necessary to fulfil the role
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of vehicles and equipment to a high standard, including daily vehicle checks on any vehicle driven
To deal with colleagues, customers and other non – Bristol Waste Company personnel in a polite, responsible and professional manner
To remain in contact with Supervisor and office staff and be responsive to operational needs and to aid Commercial growth through close relationships with sales staff and reporting back any opportunities for growth
To work flexibly between location, including Avonmouth, Albert Road Depot and Hartcliffe, to provide operational cover across the services of Commercial, Street Cleansing, Garden Waste, Refuse and Recycling and to carry out all other tasks deemed reasonable
To comply with all Bristol Waste Company reporting procedures
To attend and keep up to date with all relevant training

Essential Requirements For The Role

Must hold a Class 2 licence, CPC and Digital Drivers Card
Experience or ability to undertake regular vehicle checks including oil, water and battery levels
Experience or ability to demonstrate suitability for physical work involving pushing/pulling waste bins and lifting recycling boxes up to 25kg
The ability to understand and complete daily defect sheets
Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to work independently and to use own initiative
The ability to work well within a small team
The ability to use IT systems

Please note: Successful candidates will be required to attend our 5 day Driver Induction programme. This is delivered over Wednesday to Friday (08:00–16:00) and includes mandatory paperwork, a collections induction, classroom‑based learning, practical driver training, and driving assessments. On Friday, our Driving Assessors will formally review your performance and determine whether you are safe to operate on rounds, with relevant supervisors notified accordingly. You will then complete two monitored operational shifts on Monday and Tuesday (06:00–14:15), working on rounds with a Driving Assessor, during which daily performance reviews are conducted. Based on this assessment period, if you meet the driving criteria required, you will be signed off for operational rollout from Wednesday.
