Job summary

Stantec is offering a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering (Water) in Belfast. You will train across a supportive water team, work with UK colleagues, and gain a Level 6 BEng Civil Engineering degree through a Training Provider such as Queens University Belfast.

You’ll spend four days a week in the office while undertaking academic study, with hands-on projects that impact communities and the environment.

Job description

Degree Apprentice (Level 6) Civil Engineer - Water – Belfast (202 7 )

The Opportunity

You’ll join a supportive local water team of around 25 colleagues, within a wider local team of around 45. You’ll also work closely with our Scottish offices as part of an integrated team, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and clients across the UK.

You’ll help support UK water companies as they develop wastewater solutions that enable growth, improve local environments, reduce spills and improve final effluent quality. This will give you valuable experience on projects that make a real difference to communities and the environment.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll receive training in industry software and modelling tools, helping you build the technical skills and confidence needed for a career in civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Learn how to identify practical and sustainable design solutions for wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.

  • Support design work using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other industry software.

  • Assist with engineering activities from feasibility through to construction, including calculations and analysis.

  • Develop your understanding of project risks and how teams manage them safely and effectively.

  • Help prepare reports, presentations, bids and proposals.

  • Work alongside experienced engineers and wider project teams to build your civil engineering knowledge.

  • Attend meetings and workshops with clients and colleagues, where appropriate, to learn how projects are planned and delivered.

About you:

You’re adaptable, resilient, collaborative and curious — you stay calm when things change, keep going when challenges come up, enjoy working with others, value different perspectives and like sharing ideas, asking questions and finding better ways to solve problems.

Qualifications:

For our Level 6 apprenticeship you will need to achieve a minimum of 112 UCAS points, from one of the following:

  • A level: BBC (excluding General Studies). You must have Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical science subject at grade B or above. Analytical science subjects can include Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics and Design and Technology.

  • Applicants not offering Physics at A Level should have a minimum of a grade C/4 in GCSE Physics or GCSE Double Award grades CC/44

  • BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma: DMM - this must include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment and Mechanical Engineering.

  • Distinctions will be required in four specified units (40 credits), including Mathematics for Technicians and Further Mathematics for Technicians.

  • Scottish Highers: 4 SQA Higher - A, B, B, B (to include Mathematics, Higher Applications of Mathematics not accepted).

  • Irish Highers: H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 (at least H3 for Mathematics and one other Analytical Science).

  • International Baccalaureate: 32/655. HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies.

  • Other equivalent qualifications may be considered.

You must also have:
  • 5 GCSE's (or recognised equivalent) with a grade 5-6 (B) or above in Mathematics and English Language. Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Mathematics are also accepted.
