Job summary

Stantec is offering a Degree Apprentice (Level 6) in Civil Engineering for Reading. You will join a UK-wide Water discipline and a Reading team, working four days a week in the office and four days gaining a BEng degree with a Training Provider.

You’ll learn from experienced engineers, contribute to feasibility through construction stages, and use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to create designs. The role supports Thames Water projects and offers formal progression and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 112 UCAS points from the listed qualifications.
  • GCSEs: 5 passes with Mathematics and English at 5-6 or equivalent.
  • Predicted grades meeting entry requirements and awareness of training provider options.

Degree Apprentice (Level 6) Civil Engineer - Water – Reading (202 7 )
The Opportunity

You’ll join our Water team and be part of a UK-wide discipline of around 335 civil and structural engineers. You’ll learn from experienced colleagues while developing the skills and confidence to build your career in civil engineering.

Locally, you’ll be part of a supportive Reading team of around 15 colleagues. The Reading team works closely with colleagues in London and High Wycombe, giving you the opportunity to learn from people across the wider region. You’ll primarily support projects for Thames Water, helping deliver work linked to essential water infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting engineering activities from feasibility through to construction, including the production of detailed calculations, analysis and drawings.

  • Using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other industry software to present design solutions for clients.

  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, presentations, bids and proposals.

  • Providing technical input on civil engineering matters to support the wider project team.

  • Attending meetings and workshops with clients and colleagues from other disciplines.

Earn while you learn. Whichever apprenticeship route you take, your tuition and qualification fees are on us. You will gain a Level 6BEng Civil Engineering degree in conjunction with our Training Provider(s). This will be discussed further during the recruitment process. For this role, training providers could include;

  • Coventry University (block release)

  • Exeter University (block release)

  • University of Bristol (day release)

  • UWE (day release)

About you:

Qualifications:

For our Level 6 apprenticeship you will need to achieve a minimum of 112 UCAS points, from one of the following:

  • A level: BBC (excluding General Studies). You must have Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical science subject at grade B or above. Analytical science subjects can include Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics and Design and Technology.

  • For Exeter you must have: ABB

  • BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma : DMM - this must include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment and Mechanical Engineering.

  • UWE will also accept: Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Operations/Maintenance Engineering.

  • For Exeter you must have: DDM. They will slso accept: Building Services Engineering Construction, Operations/Maintenance Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing, Environmental Sustainability.

  • For Coventry you must have: DDM

  • Scottish Highers: 4 SQA Higher - A, B, B, B (to include Mathematics, Higher Applications of Mathematics not accepted).

  • Irish Highers: H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 (at least H3 for Mathematics and one other Analytical Science).

  • International Baccalaureate: 32/655. HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies.

  • Other equivalent qualifications may be considered.

You must also have:
  • GCSEs: 5 GCSE's (or recognised equivalent) with a grade 5-6 (B) or above in Mathematics and English Language. Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Mathematics are also accepted.
