Job summary

TEKsystems, trading as Allegis Group in the UK, is seeking a Datacentre Network Technician in Slough to provide hands-on support for network and fibre connectivity in busy data centres. You will troubleshoot Layer 1 issues using runbooks and focus on restoring existing connectivity.

This is a practical role focused on maintenance rather than new cabling, working with an onsite team under supervision. You will follow established processes, use fibre testing tools, and escalate complex issues as

Qualifications

• Hands-on data centre experience.
• Solid understanding of networking basics and physical infrastructure.
• Experience troubleshooting Layer 1 connectivity in a structured way.
• Fibre connectivity knowledge and components.
• Experience in process-driven operations and runbooks.

Responsibilities

• Respond to connectivity tickets using defined runbooks and workflows.
• Perform Layer 1 physical network troubleshooting to resolve issues.
• Diagnose fibre connectivity problems within the data centre.
• Inspect and reseat fibre connections to restore service.
• Use testing equipment to support fault diagnosis.
• Follow data centre processes and escalation procedures.
• Escalate complex issues promptly to onsite resources.
• Work with the onsite team under supervision.
• Maintain consistent, reliable ticket resolution.
• Avoid installing new cabling and focus on existing cabling.
• Maintain methodical fault-finding for accuracy.
