Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team in the UK. You will advise on UK data protection laws, maintain ROPAs, and support the DPO in regulatory duties, while leading on data breaches and regulatory reporting.

A strong background in privacy, compliance, and continuous improvement is essential. You will engage with frontline teams, regulators, and senior stakeholders to ensure robust investigations, compliance, and an efficient privacy

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance/Legal at specialist level.
• Strong knowledge of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information; presenting it clearly.
• Ability to challenge views and interpret regulatory guidance with accuracy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, with influencing and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance to business on UK Data Protection laws.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead data breach oversight and MI reporting to senior forums.
• Main contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with ICO on complaints and regulatory inquiries.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement for data protection compliance and efficiency.
