Job summary

Places for People is seeking a Data Architect to lead the design and governance of our modern data platform. You will shape architecture, build scalable data products, and guide teams across domain squads, ensuring interoperability and alignment with enterprise standards.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with principal engineers, and help define the data road map while upholding security, governance and performance standards. This role supports a flexible, inclusive work environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Data Solutions Architect or similar role.
• Strong understanding of Google BigQuery platform.
• Expertise in data platform architecture and optimisation.
• Knowledge of data mesh, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Data Platform Architecture Design: Overseeing the design of the data platform's architecture.
• Architectural Documentation: Producing clear diagrams and docs for implementation.
• Domain-Oriented Ownership: Embedding a Data as a Product mindset.
• Tool and Service Evaluation: Recommending suitable tools and services.
• Architectural Standards: Maintaining standards and reference architectures.
• Governance: Designing solutions with governance, security and quality.
• Data Product Design Standards: Ensuring discoverable, interoperable data products.
• Data Pipeline Design: Designing robust batch, event-driven and streaming pipelines.
• Operational Considerations: Addressing security, scalability and observability.
