Job summary

Places for People is seeking a Data Architect to lead the data platform design and governance within the Data and Platform Engineering team. You will drive decentralised data mesh initiatives and ensure interoperable, well-governed data products across the platform.

You will collaborate with Principal Data Platform and Engineer peers to architect, guide, and mentor on data modelling, integration, and best practices while upholding enterprise standards.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Data Solutions Architect or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of Google's Big Query platform.
• Expertise in data platform architecture, configuration, and optimisation with a focus on MPP databases like Google BigQuery.
• Strong knowledge of data mesh principles, database design, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT processes.
• Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills with an eye for improvement opportunities.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical solutions to engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Data Platform Architecture Design: oversee the data platform architecture.
• Architectural Documentation: produce clear architectural diagrams and docs.
• Domain-Oriented Ownership: embed a Data as a Product mindset.
• Tool and Service Evaluation: assess tools, infrastructure, and services.
• Architectural Standards: establish standards and reference architectures.
• Governance: design solutions with governance, security and quality in mind.
• Data Product Design Standards: ensure data products are discoverable and trustworthy.
• Data Pipeline Design: design robust batch, event-driven, and streaming pipelines.
• Operational Considerations: address security, scalability, performance, observability, and UX.
