Job summary

Places for People is evolving its data platform within a Data Office context. The Data Architect will drive architecture, governance and product-minded data design across a modern data mesh with BigQuery-based pipelines.

You will collaborate with principal engineers to shape the roadmap, mentor peers, and ensure interoperable, secure data products that enable enterprise analytics and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Data Solutions Architect or similar role with a strong track record.
• Good understanding of Google's BigQuery platform.
• Expertise in data platform architecture, configuration, and optimisation focusing on BigQuery (MPP).
• Strong knowledge of data mesh principles, database design, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT processes.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with ability to explain complex solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the data platform architecture design to meet current and future needs.
• Produce architectural documentation and diagrams for clarity.
• Embed a domain-oriented ownership model and Data as a Product mindset.
• Evaluate tools, infrastructure, and services to enhance the platform.
• Set and maintain architectural standards, reference architectures and best practices.
• Design governance, security, and quality solutions for data products.
• Design robust data pipelines (batch, event-driven, streaming).
• Address operational concerns around security, scalability, observability and UX.
