Job summary

BBC Studios in London is seeking a Data Governance Lead to shape and deliver governance across the organisation. You will lead a team, define ownership and stewardship, and work with analytics, privacy, security and AI stakeholders to ensure practical, risk-based governance.

You will drive standards for metadata, lineage, data quality and access, partnering with platform, product and engineering teams to embed governance into data platforms and self-serve analytics.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in a data governance role implementing data governance frameworks, policies and standards within a complex organisation.
• Experience in line management and developing a team.
• A strong command of data governance disciplines, including ownership and stewardship, metadata, lineage, data quality, data risk and policy development.
• Experience embedding governance into modern data platforms, data products or self service analytics, working closely with engineering, architecture and product teams.
• Experience implementing or effective use of data catalogues, metadata platforms, lineage tools or data quality technology.
• A practical understanding of how privacy, security, legal and regulatory obligations affect the collection and use of data.
• Experience working effectively with senior stakeholders across business and technology functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the continued development and implementation of the data governance framework, translating priorities into practical delivery plans.
• Drive clear data ownership, stewardship, decision-making and accountability across the organisation.
• Identify critical data and establish appropriate quality standards with data owners and stakeholders.
• Track governance adoption, data quality and control effectiveness to drive continuous improvement.
• Embed governance into data platforms, products and delivery processes with engineering, architecture and product teams.
• Lead the implementation and adoption of governance tools and capabilities, including data catalogues and data quality solutions.
• Manage and develop the data governance team and build a strong community of data owners and stewards.
