TGS International Group is currently recruiting for an experienced Data Centre Team Leader to join a leading technology and infrastructure organisation supporting a major client Data Centre environment in North Acton.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for coordinating a team of Data Centre Operations Engineers while also supporting the delivery of Moves, Adds & Changes (MAC), Business as Usual (BAU), hardware deployment, structured cabling and break/fix activities.
The successful candidate will have strong Data Centre experience, ideally within a banking IT environment, alongside proven team leadership and structured cabling expertise.
The Role
As a Data Centre Team Leader, you will:
- Lead and coordinate a team of 4+ Data Centre Operations Engineers working on a 24/7 shift rotation.
- Coordinate day-to-day Data Centre operations and engineering activities.
- Deliver and oversee Moves, Adds & Changes (MAC) and BAU works.
- Build equipment racks and carry out copper and fibre patching.
- Install SFP modules and server/network hardware.
- Complete connectivity testing following hardware installations.
- Own and manage change records for installations and server moves.
- Support server relocations within and between Data Centres.
- Carry out hardware swaps, decommissions and equipment disposals.
- Respond to break/fix incidents and assist with hardware troubleshooting.
- Perform daily Data Centre health checks and walkthroughs.
- Monitor and report issues relating to PDUs, HVAC, RPPs and server alerts.
- Maintain accurate asset, cabling and inventory records.
- Manage IT asset records and tickets through ServiceNow.
- Coordinate third-party access, Smart Hands requests, deliveries and collections.
- Work closely with the Data Centre Manager and Service Delivery teams to improve operational processes.
- Mentor and train new starters and support training sign-offs.
- Lead and supervise shift activities and special projects where required.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working within a banking IT environment.
- Strong experience working within a Data Centre MAC / hardware deployment environment.
- Extensive structured cabling experience, including installation, fault finding and testing using Fluke equipment.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable types, including FTP, UTP and optical fibre.
- Previous experience leading or supervising Data Centre teams.
- Experience managing third parties and third-party services.
- Strong understanding of asset management and ticketing systems.
- Experience with ServiceNow would be highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of change management and service delivery processes.
- Experience mentoring and training engineers.
- Ability to manage incidents, escalations and project delivery in a large-scale environment.
- Strong organisational, prioritisation and multitasking skills.
- Proactive, detail-oriented and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
