Job summary

Maersk is hiring a Customs Apprentice to learn how to prepare customs declarations, support import and export processes, and ensure shipments comply with UK customs regulations.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a global logistics organisation with mentors and a recognised apprenticeship qualification, paving a long-term career in Customs or Trade Compliance.

No prior Customs experience required—we look for the right attitude and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• GCSEs at grade 4/C or above in English and Maths.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic IT skills including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to organise workload and meet deadlines.
• Positive and proactive attitude to learning.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing import and export customs declarations.
• Learn how Duty, VAT and customs charges are calculated.
• Use customs systems and digital tools for processing activities.
• Ensure documentation is accurate and completed on time.
• Build relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement and digital/AI-enabled solutions.
• Participate in team projects and training opportunities.
• Develop knowledge of customs legislation and international trade.
