Job summary

Maersk is seeking a Customs Apprentice to join its growing team in the UK. You will gain hands-on experience in international trade while earning a recognised qualification and building a long-term career with a global logistics leader.

You’ll learn to prepare declarations, support import/export processes, and ensure compliance with UK customs rules as you work alongside experienced professionals committed to your development.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or higher.

  • Basic IT and MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with import and export customs declarations.
  • Learn how Duty, VAT and charges are calculated.
  • Use customs systems and digital tools to process activities.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and timely.
  • Build relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including AI-enabled solutions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in international trade while earning a recognised qualification and building a long‑term career with one of the world's leading logistics companies.

As a Customs Apprentice, you'll learn how to prepare customs declarations, support import and export processes, and ensure shipments comply with UK customs regulations. You'll work alongside experienced Customs professionals who will support your development every step of the way.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting the preparation and processing of import and export customs declarations.
  • Learning how Duty, VAT and customs charges are calculated and applied.
  • Working with customs systems and digital tools to process customs activities.
  • Ensuring customs documentation is accurate, compliant and completed on time.
  • Building relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, including digital and AI‑enabled solutions.
  • Participating in team projects and learning opportunities.
  • Developing a strong understanding of customs legislation, compliance and international trade.
What We’re Looking For

You don't need previous Customs experience. We're looking for people with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.

Essential Requirements
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English Language.
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to organise your workload and meet deadlines.
  • A positive and proactive approach to learning.
