Customer Service Administrator, £28,163-£32,115 (Full time equivalent), Burgess Hill, 30 hours per week, Permanent, 23 days holiday + Bank Holidays (pro rata'd), Pension, Life Assurance, Sick Pay, Parking



The Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Customer Service Administrator to support the efficient day-to-day operations of the Council's Corporate Services Office in Burgess Hill. This vital administrative role reports to the Corporate Services Manager and includes the supervision of the Administrative Support Officer. You'll work closely with a longstanding team of 16 office-based staff and 4 colleagues working in the community.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Administering the Council's burial ground records and liaising with funeral directors, suppliers, and bereaved families

  • Managing bookings for the community centre, including enquiries, booking forms, system updates, handovers, and invoicing

  • Coordinating the Mayor's engagement calendar and liaising with external organisations

  • Supervising the Administrative Support Officer in duties such as maintaining noticeboards and supporting meeting agendas and minutes

  • Attending occasional evening meetings to take minutes

  • Updating the Council's website to ensure content remains current (training provided)

  • Overseeing the archiving system and maintaining accurate records

  • Offering support at the Council's front-of-house Help Point when required

  • Carrying out general administrative duties as needed and adapting to evolving responsibilities

  • Participating in training and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards



Requirements
Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with sensitive matters. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel), attention to detail, and the ability to manage varied tasks independently or as part of a team are highly desirable. Experience in agenda creation, minute-taking, website updates, and basic bookkeeping would be advantageous. This role could suit someone who has worked as an Administrator, Office Coordinator, or Administrative Officer.
