Job summary

Amazon UK’s Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) role focuses on those with military experience transitioning to the private sector. The Critical Facilities Technician will support operation, monitoring and maintenance of electrical and mechanical infrastructure powering AWS cloud services in 24/7 data centers.

This hands-on role involves inspections, fault finding, and coordinating with vendors, while adhering to safety procedures and shift-based 24/7 coverage.

Qualifications

• Experience working with electrical or mechanical infrastructure systems.
• Hands-on maintenance, inspections, or troubleshooting on plant equipment.
• Knowledge of infrastructure systems such as power distribution equipment, generators, UPS systems, HVAC/cooling systems, pumps, motors or industrial equipment.
• Ability to follow operational procedures and safety standards.
• Willingness to work in a shift-based environment supporting 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems.
• Conduct routine plant inspections and equipment checks to ensure systems are operating correctly.
• Monitor alarms and system performance using Building Management Systems (BMS) and other monitoring tools.
• Assist with fault finding and troubleshooting across infrastructure systems including power distribution and cooling equipment.
• Support operation and testing of critical systems including diesel generators, UPS systems, switchgear and cooling equipment.
• Supervise specialist vendors performing maintenance or repair activities on site.
• Follow permit-to-work and safety procedures for all maintenance and operational activities.
• Participate in incident response and support troubleshooting during infrastructure events.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and operational logs.
• Support testing activities including generator tests and infrastructure fail-over exercises.
