Credit Controller – Group Finance Function

Salary £28,000 – £30,000 plus benefits and bonus.
Role
We’re looking for an experienced Credit Controller to join a well‑established Group finance team, supporting the business through effective, accurate and commercially minded credit control. The role plays a key part in managing customer relationships, protecting cash flow and supporting order release, acting as a trusted interface between the business and its customers. You’ll manage your own ledger, work closely with internal stakeholders, and take real ownership of outcomes. It’s a fast‑paced environment for someone organised, resilient and confident, with a strong sense of responsibility and pride in doing things properly.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Managing outstanding sales balances through proactive customer contact and relationship building
- Ensuring timely payments and negotiating repayment plans where required
- Authorising orders in line with credit limits and risk appetite
- Reviewing new customer applications, assessing creditworthiness and setting limits and terms
- Monitoring and reviewing credit limits in line with credit agencies and insurers
- Reconciling customer accounts and accurately allocating payments
- Managing overdue accounts through structured collection processes, escalating where necessary
- Handling dispute management end‑to‑end with a "right first time" approach
- Working to agreed monthly cash collection targets and reconciling daily cash
- Keeping knowledge of best practice and business performance up to date
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience in a Credit Control role
- Comfortable managing your own ledger and prioritising workload
- Experience with self‑billing and high‑volume transactions
- Confident making a high volume of calls and working to deadlines
- Strong dispute resolution skills with a commercial, solutions‑focused mindset
- Numerate, with the ability to understand and explain financial information clearly
- Strong Excel skills (advanced reporting capability an advantage)
- ICM qualification or studying towards preferred, but not essential
