Job summary

Ash Field Academy in Leicester is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor for a fixed-term 12-month contract. The role is 40 hours per week across 39 weeks per year (term time plus INSET days), with hours 08:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:00–15:45 on Fridays. Appointment is subject to Trust pay and conditions.

The post requires STL Level 3, Level 2 Maths/English, classroom experience, and safeguarding knowledge. Flexibility and commitment to professional development are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with students in a formal setting.
• Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
• Ability to effectively manage pupil behaviour in accordance with school policy and procedure.

Responsibilities

• In the absence of a teacher, supervise a class of students and ensure engagement with work set by a teacher.
• Maintain an activity bank to engage pupils when they finish set work.
• Assist with organisation of cover for absent colleagues (teachers or support staff).
• Undertake administrative duties relevant to the role.

Cover Supervisor (Fixed-term) position available at Ash Field Academy

Salary: Grade 9 Pay Points 19 - 22 (FTE Salary: £32,070 - £34,359 per annum)

Approximate actual starting salary: £29,662.78 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week ; 39 weeks per year (Term time only plus INSET days)

Contract Type: 12 months Fixed Term Contract from start date

Work Pattern: Monday - Thursday: 08:00 am- 17:00pm; Friday: 08:00am - 15:45pm (inclusive of 45 minutes unpaid lunch break)

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• In the absence of a teacher, to supervise a class of students, ensuring they are engaged in learning activity that has been set by a teacher. This may include explaining the work to be completed and answering questions from pupils to ensure that they understand what is required of them.
• To support the maintenance of an activity bank, and draw upon this in the event that pupils complete the pre-set work more quickly than expected, in order to ensure that pupils are engaged in constructive activity throughout the period of cover.
• To assist with the organisation of cover for absent colleagues (teachers or support staff), for both planned and unplanned absences.
• To undertake administrative duties relevant to the role.

We are looking for someone who has:

• NVQ 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent or able to demonstrate the ability to meet the STL Level 3 National Occupational Standards relevant to this post.
• Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy or able to demonstrate competency in literacy and numeracy equivalent to level 2.
• Experience of working with students in a formal setting.
• Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
• Ability to effectively manage pupil behaviour in accordance with school policy and procedure.
