Job summary

Academics in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor for a GOOD-rated secondary school. You will supervise classes across subjects, delivering pre-prepared lessons and maintaining a positive, focused learning environment.

The successful candidate will have experience with young people, strong communication and a calm, proactive approach. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, with pay £90-£120 per day.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people in an educational or similar setting.
• Experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or similar role is desirable.
• Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
• Confident working with students aged 11-16.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• A calm, confident and approachable manner.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• A proactive, positive and flexible approach to supporting students and staff.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes across a range of subjects in the absence of the usual classroom teacher.
• Deliver pre-prepared lessons and ensure students remain focused and engaged with their learning.
• Maintain a positive and well-managed classroom environment.
• Follow school policies and procedures relating to behaviour, safeguarding and student welfare.
• Support students with their work and encourage positive attitudes towards learning.
• Manage classroom behaviour confidently and effectively.
• Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement, behaviour and progress where appropriate.
• Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
• Support the wider school community with additional duties when required.
