Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to join our pool and work across secondary partnership schools in Sheffield and the surrounding areas. You will supervise lessons in the absence of the regular teacher, maintaining a positive learning environment and ensuring students stay on task.

We welcome candidates with experience in education or youth work and offer flexible day-to-day opportunities, ongoing support from the Tradewind team, and competitive daily rates

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people, ideally in secondary education.
• Able to manage groups and maintain classroom discipline.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, punctual and professional, with a calm approach.
• Ability to follow lesson plans and adapt to different schools.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes of secondary school students in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Deliver and explain pre-prepared lesson activities and instructions.

• Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
• Ensure students remain on task and complete the work provided.

• Report any concerns, incidents or issues to the appropriate member of school staff.
• Follow school safeguarding, health and safety and other relevant policies.
• Build positive and professional relationships with students and school staff.

As part of the Tradewind pool, you will have the flexibility to work across different schools throughout Sheffield and the surrounding areas, gaining valuable experience within a variety of educational settings.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising students during lessons when their regular teacher is unavailable. You will ensure that students remain focused, engaged and well behaved while following the lesson plans and work provided by teaching staff.

Job Requirements

We are looking for candidates who:

• Have experience working with young people, ideally within a secondary school or educational setting.
• Are confident managing groups of students and maintaining classroom discipline.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Are reliable, punctual and professional.
• Can follow lesson plans and instructions effectively.
• Have a calm, patient and positive approach to behaviour management.
• Are able to work independently and use their initiative.
• Can adapt quickly to different schools, subjects and classroom environments.
• Are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Have the confidence to establish clear boundaries while developing positive relationships with students.
• Are able to travel to schools across Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

Relevant qualifications and previous school experience are desirable but not essential, depending on the role and school requirements.
