Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is looking for enthusiastic Secondary Cover Supervisors to work in Worksop and surrounding areas. You will supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher, keeping students engaged and on task while following prepared lessons.

You will gain experience across multiple local secondary schools with ongoing support from your Tradewind consultant and access to CPD and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people in educational settings is preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to follow lesson plans and instructions accurately.
• Reliable and professional manner with students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students in a classroom when the regular teacher is absent.
• Deliver pre-prepared lessons and ensure completion of work.
• Maintain a positive learning environment and manage behaviour.
• Follow school policies and procedures at all times.
• Provide feedback to teaching staff on student progress and incidents.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of their usual teacher, ensuring students remain focused, engaged and on task.

You will work across a variety of secondary schools, providing valuable support to students and helping schools maintain continuity of learning.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supervising students in a classroom setting in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Delivering pre-prepared lessons and ensuring students complete the work provided.
• Managing classroom behaviour effectively and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Following school policies and procedures at all times.
• Supporting students with their learning and encouraging positive engagement.
• Taking registers and reporting any issues or concerns to relevant school staff.
• Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding student behaviour, work completed and any incidents.
• Maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment.
• Building positive professional relationships with students and school staff.
• Supporting the wider school community when required.

Job Requirements

• Experience working with young people, ideally within a school or educational setting.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Confidence working with secondary-aged students.
• The ability to follow lesson plans and instructions effectively.
• A calm, professional and approachable manner.
• Excellent organisational skills and reliability.
• The flexibility to work across different schools and adapt quickly to new environments.
• A genuine interest in supporting young people and their education.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Relevant qualifications or previous experience in education are desirable but not essential, as full guidance and support will be provided.
