Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking Experienced Secondary Cover Supervisors for Basildon and surrounding areas for the 2026/2027 academic year. We place teachers and education professionals in flexible day-to-day supply, short-, medium-, and long-term assignments with both part-time and full-time options.

As a Cover Supervisor you will supervise classes, follow pre-planned lessons, manage behaviour and support pupils.

• Flexible, adaptable to different schools and year groups.
• Ability to manage pupil behaviour effectively.
• Willingness to work across multiple schools and assignments.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
• Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities provided by schools.
• Maintain a calm, positive learning environment.
• Manage classroom behaviour confidently and consistently.
• Take registers and follow school procedures.
• Support pupils with their learning where appropriate.
• Provide feedback to teachers on pupil engagement and behaviour.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, you will help ensure learning continues effectively when a teacher is absent.

Depending on the school and assignment, you may:

• Supervise classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
• Deliver pre-planned lessons and learning activities provided by the school.
• Maintain a calm, positive and purposeful learning environment.
• Manage classroom behaviour confidently and consistently.
• Ensure pupils remain engaged, focused and on task.
• Take registers and follow school procedures.
• Support pupils with their learning where appropriate.
• Provide encouragement and maintain high expectations.
• Work alongside teaching, pastoral and support staff.
• Provide feedback to teachers regarding pupil engagement and behaviour.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
• Adapt confidently to different schools, subjects, year groups and classroom environments.
