Job summary

Norwich Living Wage City Action Group is seeking a proactive candidate to join the revenues and benefits team in Norwich. The role focuses on accurate council tax billing, maintaining property records, and delivering a responsive customer service to residents.

You will work with internal housing and income teams, external partners, and field staff to ensure compliance with legislation while driving efficient revenue collection and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Experience in a customer service or revenue services environment.
• Experience in administration within an office environment.
• Knowledge of Local Government Finance Act 1992 and amendments.
• Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Awareness of Health and Safety requirements and issues.
• Maths and English to GCSE level or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide efficient customer‑oriented service to the public.
• Create and maintain accurate property records.
• Bill and collect council tax in accordance with legislation.
• Deal with large bespoke student developments and liaise with accommodation managers.
• Determine liability and discounts/exemptions promptly under government policy.
• Work with internal/external partners using secure data transfer, phone, email, etc.
• Maintain revenues and benefits systems for accurate administration.
• Report properties to Valuation Office Agency and address disputes.
• Reconcile council tax billing system with the council tax list, ensuring audit readiness.
• Issue completion notices with Visiting Officers and maximise revenue opportunities.
