Job summary

Pilgrims' Friend Society is hiring a Cook for Bridgemead care home in Bath. You will prepare home-cooked meals, ensure nutrition and safety, and work as part of a compassionate team in a Christian ethos environment.

The role provides induction and ongoing training, with opportunities to contribute to residents' wellbeing and happiness. A flexible bank contract supports absences, with staff development and friendly team backing.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing and cooking meals in a professional kitchen.
• Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
• Organised, reliable and able to work with or without supervision.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently as needed.
• Food Hygiene certification is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve nutritious, balanced meals for residents.
• Maintain food hygiene and safety standards in line with regulations.
• Observe temperature controls during cooking, reheating, and serving.
• Keep kitchen records and manage stock to minimise waste and control costs.
• Keep kitchen and dining areas clean and safe; operate equipment safely.
• Attend training sessions and contribute to residents' quality of life.
• Work as part of a team and undertake other reasonable duties.

Job description

We currently have an opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook to join our team at our residential Bridgemead care home in Bath.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment, takes pride in preparing home-cooked meals, and understands the importance of providing nutritious, balanced food that contributes to the wellbeing and happiness of our residents.

Responsibilities:

Prepare, cook and serve nutritious, balanced and attractive meals, taking into account individual preferences and special dietary requirements.

Ensure all food hygiene and food safety standards are maintained in line with current regulations.

Observe minimum temperature requirements during cooking, reheating, hot holding and serving of food.

Maintain accurate kitchen records and documentation as required.

Store food correctly and manage stock rotation to minimise waste and control costs.

Maintain the kitchen, food storage areas, equipment, crockery, cutlery and utensils in a high standard of cleanliness.

Use kitchen equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and health and safety requirements.

Attend training sessions and meetings as required.

Support a positive and engaging home environment and contribute to activities that enhance residents' quality of life.

Work as part of a team and undertake other reasonable duties within your capabilities.

About You:

You enjoy working with older people and have a caring and compassionate approach.

You have experience preparing and cooking meals in a professional kitchen environment.

You understand the importance of food hygiene, food safety and maintaining high standards.

You are organised, reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

A Food Hygiene Certificate would be advantageous, although training can be provided.

Experience within a care home, healthcare or similar environment would be beneficial but is not essential.

You are willing to support and uphold the Christian ethos of the organisation.
